I find it very insulting to say that that web site is never up to date because I know that is not true,
Hmm. Then explain why when I went on it at 13:15 yesterday 30 Jan to check the game was on, the last headline on there was the fact that the Leamington game on 16 Jan was off! Call me old fashioned but irrelevant two week old information ain't up to date in my book! Can't say that anything in this thread is other than fair criticism! |

It wasn't until 13:17 that the first inkling that the game was in doubt. I posted that Supermarine was postponed at 13:29 Then "game is off" at 13:52 As so many people has said. "Who takes responsibility?" The club or the ref? |

As the game was called off very late yesterday I don't think it being on the website or not would have made much difference to any fans going to the game (especially as it was on here).
However, while I'm sure whoever runs the website is doing their best, you can't deny that updates are few and far between and when this is the case it almost defeats the point of there being a website. As has been suggested the site would benefit from two or three people managing the site - then when one person cannot update it for whatever reason there is still someone who can. If whoever runs the website (Richard Chappell?) feels they need some assistance in updating the site, I would be willing to help out. I also feel the website needs some more support from the club. As has been said before the communication between club and fans leaves a lot to be desired sometimes and a more informative website would help this. We signed a new player recently, first I heard of it was reading his name in the programme last Tuesday. Relaying basic information like this to the fans via the website would keep the fans more in touch with what is going on with OUR football club. -------------------- A car pulls up at the traffic lights. A small boy sits in the back and gazes silently out of the window, a pensive look on his face, while his father drums his fingers on the steering wheel. The hush is broken when the boy, a pleading, inquisitive tone in his voice, says: "Papa?" A sigh, a hint of resignation: here comes another one of those questions your kids ask that you can't answer. "Yes, son." "Why," asks the boy, "do we support

Both Adie and the Cambridge manager wanted to play the game but the ref called it off.
In these circumstances, the accountability should fall on the managers/clubs not on the ref. Anyone remember the good old days when they used to play in conditions like this? |

If the ref would have called it off in the morning people would have complained about that, as it was a very sunny day beliveing the ground would have thawed out by 3.00pm. If he decided to play the game and called it off at half time he would have been wrong. if the game went ahead and a player got injured then fingers would have been pointed.
no win situation for anyone. -------------------- VISIT OUR-CHIPPENHAM WEBSITE - OF YOU HAVE ANY OLD PHOTOS OF THE TOWN THEN POST THEM HERE

QUOTE if the game went ahead and a player got injured then fingers would have been pointed Indeed; but they should be pointed at the managers/clubs not the ref. If a player gets injured when conditions are perfect, does anyone start pointing fingers?? We will now have to play 3 games in one week at some point in the future. What is the risk of a player getting injured due to fixture congestion? |

If whoever runs the website (Richard Chappell?) feels they need some assistance in updating the site, I would be willing to help out. Is that what the club wants though? The club gives the impression that they only want help from the 'backslapping' brigade - no one is questioning your assistance in doing the website Richard, but looking around its one of the worse - now thats your fault entirely but you have to take some of the responsibility (and no I couldn't do a better job as I like most people havent got the time) maybe its time the club invested a bit of cash in doing it properly. For example info for the book such as results etc, most of it should be readily available as on other sites. £199 for a Swindon Town season ticket for next season anyone? |

Surely the point is that if the state of the pitch in the morning was similar to previous postponed games then it would more than suggest it would be unplayable, could have been called off much earlier and that fact also posted on the CTFC website. Doesn't take a rocket scientist does it and I would bet that's where most people would first look for info. Sunny day or not, I'd rather not go travelling unnecessarily and I bet the Cambridge team would have something similar to say too!
Still, never mind. There's a chance to do it all over again tomorrow night and at least I'm getting used to it now! |

Just to let everyone know that I can only put information on the website as an when I receive it, I find it very insulting to say that that web site is never up to date because I know that is not true, I put the information on the website and the forum as soon as I receive it. I checked before I left my home to make sure the match was still on and was told it was. I was all ready at the ground when the game was called off so I can not be in two places at once and by the time I got back it would have been too late to make any difference to anyone travelling to the match. I suggest you think before you make snide comments like you have today or you will have no one running the website after all I do this purely as a volunteer and in my spare time. Just as a note My mother has been very ill in hospital over this 7 weeks and I have spent lots of time travelling to and from Bath Hospital but I still tried to put the information on the site when I received it. As I said in a previous post we should be grateful to those who do things around the club on a voluntary basis and that remains the case. But I also said if ANYONE takes on any task it needs doing properly. I'm sure everyone who knows you is more than grateful for the hours you put in on behalf of the club and keep up the good work. However, as far as the website is concerned as you say you can only up date it when information is received. So on that point I have a couple of comments. 1) Just about every post in this thread is saying the same the website is pants. That is down to the club. If they don't give you the information then you can't put it on. I assume as it is the club's official website you can only put on information that is agreed with the club. If that is the case then back to square one, communication is everything with your customers. And to remind them us fans are their customers! I get fed up asking at various games who so and so is or why isn't so and so even on the bench. It's not until someone who heard something from someone else etc etc do you find out that a certain player left the club weeks ago. 2) Concerning postponements and postings on a match day. Now I'm not a computer techo but surely as the club know you run the site and you will be attending a game therefore its a bit difficult fo you to do an update I don't suppose it is impossible for a club official at the ground to have web access ( a laptop!) and post immediate match news ie THE MATCH HAS BEEN POSTPONED. Could even go further and maybe post the team. If the lads from the Gazette could do it why can't CTFC do it????? |

The website is created on the pitchero.com hosting system, and while I haven't looked too deeply into it, its created for free using their template. Nothing wrong with that. Indeed I used a template for the club site in 2005, but had to pay for hosting on squarespace - actually the club paid for it.
I think given the return on investment for a club at this level, then Richard/the club have taken the right curse of action - but I suspect that Craig Goulding was the guy who got it up and running, Richard has taken on the updating of it. The key with any website is content, content, and content. For sure its one of the first places people should look for up to date info, it should be publicised in the program and people encouraged to use it. Clearly Richard needs to define a clearer path to get that info, and others should have a login for emergency updates. Another way to keep it fresh is to get soundbites from the manager and if Mingsy is half as accommodating as Darren Perrin used to be, then that can be a great outlet for the club. - Back in 2005, my published titbits from Darren were regularly reported on teletex and ceefax. Its certainly not Richards fault the game was called off, but given that the website did not display the news, its no surprise that criticism has arisen. Given that he wasn't in a position to do it, then he shouldn't take it personally, but try and think of a way of improving it. |

And if you hop onto the Evesham post/thread, some of the points made here seem to have struck home! I don't underestimate the task of managing the content of the official site. The suggestions made above are good starters and I'm sure others would come through if the supporters were asked or even invited to provide some input. |

All this Criticism of Richard, yet not one person could bother putting any score updates on the beak tonight.
