A quick roundup of last nights game..
fiver to get in. Strong Chippenham side, Gill Lamb, Tindle, Casey, Gullick Perrot, Lye, Williams, Edenborough Griffin, Powell Chippenham started brightly enough, and had probaby the better of the game until Newport stepped up a gear, forced a corner and a simple header from Robbie Mathews got the scoring underway. 2-0 just before half time and you got the feeling that Newport could more or less score as many as they wanted if they really turned it on. That said. Powell missed a penalty - and enough must be enough with regard to his spot kicks this coming season. Almost immediatley it was 3-0.Who scored , dont know - no announcment. Anyway, despite the result, we did resonably well, but it was played in a competitive manner and there was a gulf in class. Thier back four rarely troubled. The relaid goalmouths cut up quite badly in the rain, and with another game on saturday, they aren't going to last long (using all my experience as a gardener) As an aside. Last night I arrived home in anger. This might sound minor, but in the context of how it came about I have never felt so insulted. Upon leaving the ground, I interacted verbally with 3 men, one of whom was holding the hand of a boy of about 6. They were of normal appearance, I.E not beer bellied thugs. As I walked along in front of them, the conversation went something like this. Whos that dad? The village idiots We hate village idiots dad we do. - VI's - villiage idiots. This village idiot routine went on all the way to the Bristol road. The sort of coversation thats about you, spoken in your vicinity, but not directly with you. I was absolutely seething at the arrogance and level of disrespect being shown - especially in front of his kid, and taking into account his kid had clearly been brought up on this sort of rubbish. I actually wanted to confront him and plant him. And the act of self control was quite difficult. I was not a happy man when I sat in the car. For years I've proclaimed that there's nothing wrong with Newport County, the Welsh or its supporters, but no more. The line is drawn there. They get no more slack from me. |

As a Newport County fan from Wiltshire, I can only apologise on behalf of the numpties you encountered! I have followed the County all over the country and have only ever encountered high standards of hospitality wherever I have been. All I canj say is that the vast majority of County fans are just not like that - it's always the brainless minority that spoil it. Anyway ... the very best of luck for next season and your bid for promotion. Chippenham sides are always there or there abouts and I hope you have a season that mirrors our season last year. All the best.
